Exercise Little By Little For Weight Loss

There is a touch of irony about this page on weight loss. I try to do one page a day for this web site to keep it fresh, and today it was scheduled for after lunch. Getting in the right frame of mind, I had fruit for lunch. Mango, apple and banana. I am fortunate, I live on a tropical island now where mangoes and bananas are native, and very cheap. Apples are imported, but compared to the insipid apples left in the UK they are delicious. So, having a fruit lunch is not a punishment. Mango has surpassed strawberry as my favourite fresh fruit, but that is not to say we were not excited when Puerto Princesa's only supermarket had strawberries for the first time last week. I was like a child on Christmas morning. After 3 years.....strawberries!

It was about an hour after lunch that I settled down to do some work, and was getting things prepared so that I could start writing this. The smell of something nice cooking wafted in my window (I thought). How can I write about losing weight when that smell is tempting my taste buds? Well, I would have done, no problem there; I am quite strong willed, when I want to be, of course.

I say "would" because about 15 minutes later my wife, Mary Ann came in carrying a bowl of camote Q's. The smell was not coming through the window, but from our kitchen. Camote is sweet potato. Camote Q is fried camote dripping with a caramelised, extremely sweet covering, a bit like toffee apple in the UK. They are traditionally sold on a stick, the Q. Something like a camote kebab.

As my wife had cooked them, and we had not had them for well over a year, I politely succumbed, and went to sit on the terrace to eat the Q's, with my 18 month old daughter experiencing their delights for the first time,.

As I carried my camotes out to the terrace, I said to my wife: "that means I'll have to do some extra exercise now." I will too.

Anyway, I chose to write about simple exercise this afternoon, for those who tend to do more putting off exercise than actually doing any. Really, it does not have to be that bad.


Excuse Free Exercise For Weight Loss

I am sure you do not need telling that exercising is about the best way to boost your weight loss intensions; turning them from a fictional dream world into reality. Exercise increases your metabolism, and consumes those calories. In addition, the more you exercise, the better the effect effect will be, as exercising builds muscle mass, and that is denser and more compact than fat. That means your body requires more effort to pump blood through it, and it needs more nutrients to keep it healthy. What that means is, even at rest, your body naturally burns more calories.

Yes, I know, we all know that. But often, exercise, even the thought of it, is a battleground for excuses. Most people will cringe at the very word "exercise", and reel off all sorts of excuses. If you are serious about losing weight, however, then you really should (sorry, we really should), overcome those silly excuses and at least do some exercise each day.

It is surprisingly easy to build in some exercise to your daily routine, when you remember that exercise is not just about going to the gym and using loads of equipment. Here are just a few counterpoints to those lame excuses we are all likely to come up with from time to time:

The Gym's Too Expensive For Me To Exercise.

Maybe you would like to use a gym to help you exercise and lose weight, but you tell yourself it's all too expensive. But how closely have you looked at the costs, and the ways to cut them back? Did you check your health insurance? You may get special benefits for gym memberships. Have you compared the different gyms? They do not need to be luxurious to help you lose weight; you may find a gym with good equipment, but no exclusive trappings, that is much cheaper than the best. Check properly before you dismiss the whole idea of a gym. You may get a nice surprise, followed by a slimmer you.

I'd Like To Exercise To Lose Weight, But I Don't Have The Time.

Now, there's a lame excuse if ever there was one. You can make time for some exercise, there's no doubt about that.Exercise could be one of the most important things you'll do for your health today, so is it not worth building some routine, if simple, exercise into you day.

Exercise does not have to be a long stint at the gym. A few minutes here and there as you go about your business and leisure can be beneficial. Do you just sit and watch tv? You can exercise while you watch: isometric exercise for your stomach; lifting weights; sit ups, push ups; all can be done while the tv is on. You can even put an exercise bike or step machine in front of the tv.

I work at home, so I am even more sedentary than before. When we moved into this split level bungalow a few weeks ago, our lightweight dumbbells got tucked in between the marble bannisters by the two steps between the two levels. I thought we'd have to move them as our little daughter would get hold of them. But she's shown no interest, and there they stay. Each time I go between the two levels, I see them. If I stop for a tea or coffee break, I pass them on the way to the kitchen. That reminds me; so as the water in the kettle is boiling, I sometimes use those few minutes for lifting the dumbbells 40-60 times. Those odd few minutes can make a good difference at the end of the day. Leave yourself strategically placed reminders, and let them mould into your life as a habit.

I Wish I Could, But I Don't Have The Right Equipment At Home

You do not actually need equipment. Or you can utilize non-exercise equipment: how about vacuuming the carpet more often, that burns off calories. Do you have young children; lift them up above your head 20 times and you'll both be laughing. A few months ago I was doing that to our daughter, then about one year old; she was too young to be offended by my calling her my little dumbbell, and she loved it; so did I.

Anyway, walking is a great exercise, just go out for a brisk walk every day; lunch time, or evening, it doesn't matter, just do it. How about dancing? Put some dance music on and just let go; it's fun, whatever you're age

Ok, I Admit Those Are Not Good Excuses, But Exercise Is Such A Chore And So Boring

More than that, it's a recreation. Exercise does not have to be routine. You can make it up as you go along. As long as you are on the move (I don't mean just sitting in a car or train) then you are exercising.
